7th - 13th November: Kars, Eastern Turkey
After the success of the 'Snow' workshop last year, NISI MASA continued its partnership with the 14th edition of the Festival on Wheels in 2008.
5 European participants travelled to Kars, where their challenge will be to produce a film from one single plan sequence.
Kars is a suitable city for this kind of filming, since its scenery is very convenient for long takes. An intersection point of Armenian, Caucasian, Russian and Turkish cultures, the architecture and design reflects this diversity.

From the 13th - 19th October 2008, NISI MASA organised a NISIMAZINE film journalism workshop in collaboration with the Cinéma Verité - Iran International Documentary Film Festival, located in the capital city of Tehran.
The workshop involved a mixed editorial team of European and Iranian journalists. 5 daily issues of NISIMAZINE were published during the 2nd edition of the festival (15th - 19th Oct) in English.

New Pictures of the Old World workshop: Trencianske Teplice, Slovakia

Artfilm in association with NISI MASA organised a fillmaking workshop during the 16th International Artfilm Festival from June 27th to July 6th in Trencianske Teplice/Trencin, Slovakia.
During the workshop, 4 groups of participants (from Hungary, Austria, the Czech Republic and Slovakia) set out to make films, finding their inspiration from the classic movie by Dusan Hanak, Pictures of the Old World (Obrazy stareho sveta), 1972.

“European Video Letters” was a project which allowed young people to exchange their views on a given subject via the audiovisual medium.
From December 2007 - March 2008, 16 young participants from France (students of the School of Fine Arts, Bourges), Poland, Italy and The Netherlands (NISI MASA Poland, Franti - NISI MASA Italy and Meccapanza respectively) corresponded via short video letters on the theme: “Borders”
The project was organised by the International Screenwriter’s Festival in Bourges. All of the short films were screened and discussed during the festival, which took place from 27th - 30th March 2008.

For the 2nd time, European Short Pitch took place from the 29th of January to the 5th of February 2008 in France. It combined a 5-day scriptwriting workshop in residency (Moulin d'Andé, Normandy) and a pitching session during the most important short film festival in Europe (Clermont-Ferrand).
Initiated by NISI MASA, European Short Pitch is the continuation of a scriptwriting workshop held for the finalists of its European Script Contest since 2004. It aims to develop a European production of short films through promotion of projects starting from the phase of writing, by meetings between scriptwriters/directors and producers on the European level.

Organising an itinerant cinema event; NISI MASA old-timers had been nurturing this crazy idea ever since the origins of the network. It took the arrival of the Russian association Moviement, for the dream to become reality. Our enthusiastic Moscow-based colleagues intended to bring up-to-date a unique working method, invented by Russian documentary filmmakers in the 1930s. It was called the ‘Cine-Train’

After the success of our daily gazettes during the Cannes Film Festival in 2006 & 2007, created entirely by young Europeans, NISI MASA decided to develop its film journalism workshops on a larger scale!
The Nisimazine Film Journalism Workshops took place during the following festivals:
-the 25th edition of Torino Film Festival (Italy) in November 2007
-the 7th edition of DocPoint in Helsinki (Finland) in January 2008
-the 61st edition of Cannes Film Festival (France) in May 2008
