The script of this film was winner of the 4th edition of the NISI MASA European Script Contest for short films, the theme of which was “Silence”.
This film was directed by its awarded scriptwriter, the Italian Claudio Lauri, who decided to shoot it in Naples. He was accompanied in his project by Matteo Anatrella (photography) and Lino Sciarrone (editing). The actors who participated in the film are: Luca Lombardi, Antonio Allocca, Stefano Moffa, Imma Allocca and Annalisa Lacala
The film is about a young fishmonger, Mario, who dreams of becoming a wild sea bass. His long journey takes him from a fisherman's net to the pan of Cilla, the beautiful customer whom he secretly loves.
Sea Bass Dream was shot in summer 2006 over just three days. It was necessary to recreate the atmosphere of a Neapolitan market because it was very complicated to film directly in a real one such as Montesanto (petty criminality, noise, traffic…). On the other hand, setting the scene in a real fish shop wouldn’t be realistic at all because no fishmonger would shut down his business for 5 days!
In any case, 70% of the scenes were filmed outdoors. Although it’s well-known that in July Naples is always very sunny and hot, unfortunately the summer of 2006 was somewhat exceptional. In fact there were three "funny" days of rain, so the crew of Sea Bass Dream was forced to take advantage of the few sunny intervals for the shooting.
Sea Bass Dream has been screened in competition at the following festivals:
David di Donatello 2007, Italy
Napoli Film Festival 2007, Italy
Lucania Film Festival 2007, Italy
Milano Film Festival 2007, Italy
