DVD "SNOW" WORKSHOP - KARS, TURKEY, 2007
2007 | Films | Workshop Films

After having explored the city of Istanbul (Visions of Istanbul), NISI MASA wanted to explore the opposite side of Turkey: Kars, a city in the far-east of the country. Nobel prize-winning Orhan Pamuk, a Turkish writer, was inspired by this place to write his novel “Snow”. This evocation of an old crossroad of civilisations was the starting point of this filmmaking workshop.

"Snow" Workshop
After having explored the city of Istanbul (Visions of Istanbul), NISI MASA wanted to explore the opposite side of Turkey: Kars, a city in the far-east of the country. Nobel prize-winning Orhan Pamuk, a Turkish writer, was inspired by this place to write his novel “Snow”. This evocation of an old crossroad of civilisations was the starting point of this filmmaking workshop. Ten selected young Europeans were invited to shoot short films, having read the book beforehand. The aim was to show how the films will be influenced by Pamuk’s vision of this city. Kars and its inhabitants will be the subjects of the filmmaking workshop. It took place in partnership with the 13th European Film Festival on Wheels.

Amsterdam (The Netherlands)
31.July-5.August 2007

With the partnership of Mecca Panza (Netherlands), NISI MASA aims to give knowledge and skills to young people who organise audiovisual workshops.
The objectives of the training course were to go deeper into building cross-border audiovisuals projects.
During the project we tried to raise and discuss questions regarding audiovisual workshops, for example:
-How can we define the theme and format of a workshop?
-How can we involve tutors and participants for a quality audiovisual workshop?
-How can we achieve a bigger impact on local audiences and involve them in a collective artistic experience?

Promoted by the well-known civic movement and think tank Confrontations Europe, the “Tour d’Europe” (European Tour) project consisted in a seminar of 8 conferences touring over Europe from November 2006 to June 2007, aimed at discussing the renewal of the European project.
NISI MASA was one of the partners of this tour, bringing to the general discussion the points of views of young European artists.
